SAN DIEGO (Aug. 10, 1999) – Henry DeVries, APR, president of Henry DeVries/Communications, has been named chairman of the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce Member Benefits Committee for 1999-2000.

“My goal is to be the voice of the small business person, to do the due diligence on benefits before the Chamber offers them, “ says DeVries, who has served on the committee since 1997.

Before opening his own public relations firm in 1998, DeVries was president of the Roni Hicks & Associates advertising and public relations agency and vice president of public relations for The Independent Order of Foresters, a $3.6 billion fraternal life insurance organization.

DeVries is active in community affairs and has served on the Chamber’s public policy committee and marketing committee. He served as chairman of the Super Bowl XXXII Ambassador Team and is a member of the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau Community Relations Committee.

He is co-author of the book Self-Marketing Secrets (Pfeiffer, 1991) and has taught marketing communications at UCSD Extension since 1984.

DeVries earned his MBA from SDSU, his BA in communications from UCSD and his APR (Accredited Public Relations designation) from the Public Relations Society of America. He lives in Ramona with his wife Vikki and their four children.
